Permit history. Ask whether the contractor pulls all required permits. In DuPage County, permit records are publicly searchable. A contractor who suggests skipping permits to save money is exposing you to insurance gaps, resale issues, and safety risks.
References from your type of project. Ask for references from projects of similar scope completed in the past 12 months in your area. The best contractors offer to show completed work in person — we do.
