The Yorkshire basement was originally an unfinished 3,000+ sq ft space — concrete floor, exposed mechanicals, generic potential. The homeowners wanted something specific: a full entertainment and retreat space that could host formal gatherings, operate as a private family retreat, and support daily use as a gym and library. Six distinct zones in one coordinated buildout.
SilverBullet scoped the entire project as a single GC contract. Lounge area with stone fireplace, full custom wet bar with wine storage, dedicated library with coffered walnut ceiling, home gym with appropriate flooring and ventilation, dry sauna, and temperature-controlled wine cellar. Every zone had its own design requirements — and every zone needed to feel like part of the same home, not six separate projects stitched together.
The design throughline was warm neutrals, quarter-sawn walnut millwork, and natural stone. The same white oak flooring runs through the main entertaining zones. The same brushed brass hardware appears on the bar, library built-ins, and wine cellar. When you walk through the space, it reads as a unified retreat — not a checklist of amenities.
Finishing a 3,000 sq ft basement isn't just a finishing project — it's a coordinated mechanical and structural buildout. We reworked the HVAC to provide zoned control across the six spaces (the sauna, wine cellar, and gym all have different climate requirements). We added a dedicated subpanel to handle the electrical load of the bar, sauna, and gym equipment. Egress requirements were handled before framing began. The City of Oak Brook building department reviewed and approved all structural modifications, including the sauna enclosure and wine cellar cooling system.
The library built-ins were designed and built specifically for this home — not ordered from a catalog. Same for the bar back, wine cellar racking, and gym storage. Custom millwork meant longer lead times during the design phase (we committed shop drawings and materials 6 weeks before installation) but delivered the bespoke feel the homeowners wanted. Every piece was built to the exact dimensions of its space, with material and finish choices coordinated across zones.
The project ran 22 weeks from demo to final walkthrough — longer than a typical basement finish because of the scope and material lead times. The homeowners stayed in the home throughout. We managed dust control carefully, staged work by zone, and finished each area substantially before moving to the next to minimize disruption. The final result is the basement the homeowners originally described — finished exactly as specified, delivered within the contract timeline.
The Yorkshire project was a complete luxury finish of a 3,000+ sq ft unfinished basement in Oak Brook, IL, including six distinct zones: a lounge with stone fireplace, a full custom wet bar, a library with coffered walnut ceiling, a home gym, a dry sauna, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Work included custom millwork, stone and tile installation, HVAC zoning, electrical subpanel, structural modifications, and all City of Oak Brook permits and inspections.
Yes. The Yorkshire project required City of Oak Brook permits for electrical (subpanel addition, significant new circuits), plumbing (wet bar and additional bathroom), HVAC modifications, and structural framing for the sauna and wine cellar enclosures. SilverBullet managed permit applications, inspection scheduling, and closeout through the City of Oak Brook building department.
22 weeks from demo to final walkthrough. Custom millwork lead times drove the schedule — library built-ins, bar back, and wine cellar racking required 6-week shop drawing and fabrication windows. SilverBullet built this into the master schedule before work began, and the project closed on time.
Lounge, bar, library, gym, sauna, and wine cellar — all running concurrently under a single SilverBullet contract. One schedule, one point of accountability, zero coordination gaps between trades.
The walnut built-ins and arched entertainment wall were templated and fabricated off-site during rough-in — delivered and installed the week electrical inspection was passed. Zero schedule impact.
Industrial open lounge and intimate walnut library feel like different worlds while remaining visually connected through a custom glass-panel millwork door — a design intent preserved across every trade decision.
Sauna electrical subpanel, wet bar plumbing, structural framing, and egress compliance — all permitted through the City of Oak Brook and inspected at every required phase before work proceeded.
